Portrait of Katharine Kelso Cassatt
Some things never change. Mary Cassatt spent many hours trying to get her niece Katherine Kelso Cassatt to smile, but like many children, Katherine refused to cooperate. As a single woman in Paris, Cassatt faced significant limitations on her ability to move freely in society, but she found many subjects to paint—some more willing than others—in her private life, including many family members and friends.
