Bowl

Jade Snow Wong’s bowl displays her skill: she fired powdered glass on copper in a hot kiln to create its verdant green surface.

Wong grew up in San Francisco’s Chinatown, the daughter of Chinese immigrants. In addition to her status as an accomplished artist, she was also a writer. In her twenties, Wong wrote a memoir, Fifth Chinese Daughter, detailing her experience balancing the expectations of her strict parents with her desire to embrace an American identity. Fifth Chinese Daughter became an Asian American literary classic.
