You, One Me Erase

Look closely at this work by Japanese-born, Brooklyn-based artist Tomokazu Matsuyama and you may see some familiar figures. Within this monumental, psychedelic living room, Matsuyama has sampled the works of nearly 100 artists, repainting iconic works by Georgia O'Keeffe, Diego Rivera, and many other artists alongside Biblical heroines like Judith and Susanna as they appear across centuries of world art. Matsuyama invites viewers into a vibrant and dynamic space that feels both familiar and foreign. By immersing us in a visual conversation with global images and identities, Matsuyama celebrates cultural convergence and artistic imagination. What can art reveal about our similarities and differences?
