Self Portrait in a Red Shirt

Drawn at almost life size, Diane Edison fills the picture frame, her posture both guarded and defiant. Behind a pair of tortoiseshell bifocals, Edison’s eyes meet ours with a direct, discerning stare. “I want the viewer to lock eyes with the portrait and stay with it,” Edison remarked. “What you see is what you get.”
