Awash with brushy blue marks hovering over a ground dotted with green foliage, Petra Cortright’s abstract work holds on loosely to the familiar elements of a landscape: land, horizon, and sky. Cortright develops her paintings by copying from the internet, erasing, blending, mixing, and layering until the source material disappears completely, revealing a landscape of her own design; existing exclusively in the digital realm—a space of limitless possibility —until finally becoming fixed in real space once printed onto aluminum.
