Seeing One Another

Seeing One Another brought together 43 works exploring how Americans have represented each other across lines of race, class, gender, and culture. The exhibition examined portraiture, genre painting, and documentary photography as acts of looking — asking who gets seen, who does the seeing, and how the gaze of the artist shapes our understanding of one another.
