The Stoker
Irwin Hoffman's two brothers were mining engineers, so he had first-hand experience of the tough working conditions and specific equipment associated with mining labor. Although this man takes a break from his work to face the viewer, his workplace is revealed in the equipment surrounding his head, his smudged face and clothing, and the working men just visible in the background.
